In January 2006 Google Video added a feature allowing users to download videos specifically for the PSP. Unfortunately the instructions they give for getting the movie onto your PSP are incorrect, and resulted in many confused PSP owners downloading files they could not play. In this quick tip we show how to get videos downloaded from Google Video's massive archive playing on your PSP in 1 minute flat. The only thing preventing the PSP playing Google Video's is the PSP's file naming convention is not being followed by Google. You can read all about PSP file naming in our PSP Movie Formats Guide, but for a quick fix just follow these simple steps to view Google Videos on your PSP.
Now we need to rename the file in a manner that the PSP will recognise, so rename the file exactly like this (all caps) : M4V02415.MP4 Note that you should change the digits I have underlined to any random 5 digit number for each different movie you download. Now connect your PSP and drag that file to the folder called 100MNV01. Now you will be able to play the movie on your PSP. It will be listed with the default grey filmstrip icon in the Video section. If you are keeping the movie and would like to make a custom thumbnail image for it instead of the default grey one the PSP has assigned, you can do that easily by following our Video Thumbnail Guide . Updated : 25th January 2006 : AVC format movies Google has started encoding some movies with the AVC codec, these movies need handled slightly differently to play on the PSP. (1) Follow the same instructions as above, but name the file like this (all caps) : MAQ02415.MP4 Note that you should change the digits I have underlined to any random 5 digit number for each different movie you download. (2) Now connect your PSP and drag that file to the folder called \MP_ROOT\100ANV01 As you can see the filen and the folder for AVC files are named slightly differently. Use the wrong convention and the video will not appear, or be listed as unsupported data. Thanks to a PSPGuides user for sending us this Google update! If you would like to learn more about folders and filenames on your PSP, please read our PSP Movie Folders and Formats guide.
