When it comes to protecting your PSP from damage it pays to make sure you are getting the best protection, while still retaining functionality. That's why our number choice for PSP Protection and the king of cases is the Logitech Playgear Pocket. Read on to see why we like it so much, and why every PSP owner should have one.

Description

The Playgear Pocket is a clam shell polycarbonate case with a single robust hinge at the rear.  The case itself is translucent, with a black rubberised insert that holds the PSP in place thanks to its non-slip properties.

The case is shut tight with a secure snap shut at the front and opened by pushing inwards to release the catch and then pushing the lid upwards. The lid can then be pushed right back by 270 degrees making it self standing with the PSP screen lying back at about a sixty degree angle.

Cut outs at each corner of the case allow connection to every single port on the PSP apart from the USB and infra-red.

Skins can be downloaded from the internet and inserted to customise your case.

Protection

The Playgear Pocket affords the PSP superb protection. I was initially surprised to see that the PSP is not actually restrained in the case by means of a strap or something similar, but in use this has not actually been an issue at all.

The closing clasp is robust and will not open by mistake, and the rear hinge is also very robust and I cannot envisage it loosening over time. Mine has had alot of use and the hinge is still like new, lots of tension but not too stiff.

Connections

With the case closed there are 6 openings still freely accessible. So even with the case closed, you can still access both shoulder buttons, the wireless switch, the headphones jack, the power supply and the on off switch. This means you can charge the PSP while it is still in the case, and also play music and control the playlist. Charging while still secure and safe in the case is one my favourite features.

Movies

Because the case lid can flip back and turn the whole thing into a neat stand, watching movies is great with the Playgear Pocket. The headphones can be plugged in at the same time for added convenience.

Gaming

For gaming I prefer to hold the PSP without the case although sometimes I do keep the PSP in the case. While in the case obviously it is slightly heavier to hold, but it does add extra depth for your hands to grip with and I do find this comfortable. The shoulder buttons can still be used with the PSP in the case and the lid open. It's down to personal preference here really.

In difficult lighting conditions the lid also acts as a handy sun visor.

Music

If you like using your PSP for listening to music on the move this is not a problem for the Playgear Pocket. Thanks to a nice opening in the case next to the earphone connection, you can plug in your earphones and put the whole thing in your pocket. You can even still use the shoulder buttons to skip to the next or previous track using the exposed shoulder buttons.

Downloads

The other really cool thing about this case is it provides a neat stand to sit the PSP in while you are connected via USB to your PC to download the latest media.

Overall

The Playgear Pocket goes straight into our essential purchase category, and considering it's very low retail price it's a real bargain. Don't put you PSP investment at risk - protect it today!
